A ghost tour for iPhone, starting in Charleston. Private beta.
Hear Charleston's ghost stories from the ghosts themselves.
Haint is a planned Charleston walking tour for iPhone. At selected stops, location-based stories and AR apparitions bring you closer to the tale.
Private beta. The complete Charleston tour is still being prepared.
Ghosts with faces and something to say.
A full-length apparition appears in a place tied to its story. Its face and mouth move as it speaks, and it drifts a little, the way a ghost should.
Then it tells you its story, in its own words.
Phase I apparitions: full-length, with moving faces and a little spectral drift.

A haint is the Lowcountry word for a restless spirit. Haint blue, the blue-green on porch ceilings, is a tradition associated with keeping spirits away.
That leaves a lot of ghosts outside with a story to tell. Haint lets you hear a couple of them.

Take it at your own pace.
Some people love a guided group tour. If you would rather go with just your own people, Haint is self-guided, so you set the pace.
Bring a date. Bring your mother-in-law.
Self-guided, with whoever you came with.

Your iPhone is how the apparition appears, so yes, you will look at it. When the ghost is done talking, look up.
Where you are standing is half the story.
No headset. Just your iPhone.

A good guide tells the story with a raised eyebrow and a lowered voice. Where the facts are shaky, Haint says "the story goes."
The ghost is the cold part. Everything else is warm.
"The story goes" marks lore, not settled history.

See the first tourQuestions people ask
Is this a game, a history tour or a gimmick?
A story-led walking tour. If you have played a location game, the feeling of heading somewhere to find something is similar, but there are no points and nothing to collect. Your iPhone is how the ghost appears. The story and the place are what you came for.
Do I have to wear a headset?
No. Haint runs on your iPhone, and there is no headset involved.
Will I be staring at my phone the whole time?
Some of it, yes. Your iPhone is how the ghost appears, so you will look at it then. The place, the air and the listening are the rest.
Is it scary? Is it right for my group?
Spooky and funny, closer to a guide who half believes the story than to a haunted house. The chill stays with the ghost. We will post content and age guidance before invites go out.
Where and when can I try it?
The complete Charleston tour is still being prepared for beta. We are not publishing a final route or promising that every proposed stop will be included.
Will it work on my phone?
Haint is built for iPhone. We will list the supported models and iOS version before invites go out.
What does "private beta" mean?
It is an early test with invited people, before Haint is public. Join the list and we'll email if there is a suitable testing opportunity. Expect rough edges and be ready to tell us what happened.
Come hear it from the ghost.
The porch ceiling is painted blue to keep spirits out. This is how you let one in.
